Spinning Like A Top!

spinning out of controlDo you ever get the feeling that life is spinning out of control or wonder who is in charge? Spin outs are something we all have experienced. In fact, there are toys that are called spintops which remind me of this very thing.

It doesn’t take much for us to feel like one of those toys. The ones where we can put our fingers on the small round knob…twist the knob…then watch it spin. It can be quite a mesmerizing time watching this, especially if the there are many colors that seem to blend in.

However, if we are spinning out of control, it is essential that we ask ourselves a few questions. how does our spinning affect those around us? How should we react when our life appears to be spinning out of control?

Yes, there are a multitude of things that are bombarding our senses…reports and images of war, hurricanes, and terrorists that are streaming on television, Facebook, and Twitter and then the things that affect our personal lives; illness, joblessness, broken relationships, and my current personal favorite….getting old!

It’s a fact, life in this world is a frustrating mess that can cause each and everyone one of us anxiety and stress. It is the way we handle these moments in time that makes a difference in the lives of those surrounding our spinning. There is no worse feeling than watching someone spin out of control. It can be frightening, frustrating and messy. We have all witnessed this behavior or have been a part of our own anxiety spin out. However, if our core is anchored in Christ….we are assured that God is still in charge!

If we can learn how to keep our anxiety in control by staying in His presence, it will not damage relationships with others who are witnessing the messy spin outs. In the scriptures, we are reminded in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self- control.”

So when we feel or know we are spinning out of control, let us be reminded that it is essential that we practice the fruits of the spirit and we restore any broken relationships caused from our spin outs.

“Finally, borthers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about all these things” Philipians 4:8
